Luxury apartments and homes in central London. Prices from £185,000 to £650,000
The Academy Woolwich is being tipped as one of the hottest property investment opportunities in London. What is exciting investors about this conversion of the grade II Royal Academy building is a combination of location and the uniqueness of this prestigious development – the two key factors that determine investment potential.
A unique self-contained community in the heart of London
Where else in central London could you buy into a quasi-rural village environment with plenty of green space and easy access to the River Thames? The Academy is being developed into a total of 334 houses and apartments, with a mixture of both converted and new build homes, all within a cloistered historic environment akin to an Oxford college.
The first 22 apartments and houses have recently gone on the market at prices ranging from £185,000 for a studio flat to £650,000 for a five-bed house and with the marketing suite now open, the development is buzzing with interest.
Poised to benefit from infrastructure and transport improvements
The 2012 Olympics will stimulate economic growth and lasting infrastructure benefits to Woolwich. The transformation is already well under way. The Docklands Light Railway extension to Woolwich will be completed in early 2009, when the journey from Woolwich to London City Airport will take just 4 minutes and Canary Wharf less than 10 minutes.
A bus-based rapid transit system – Greenwich Waterfront Transit – is planned, linking Woolwich with Abbey Wood, Greenwich Village and the O2. The go-ahead for Crossrail will link Woolwich with Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west and Kent and Essex in the east. Once this new service is complete, the Isle of Dogs will be less than 10 minutes away and the direct journey to Heathrow will take just 50 minutes.

Leading architect helps to capitalise on unique historic character
The developer behind the historic conversion of the Academy is award winning Durkan Estates who have a high reputation for the quality of their construction projects. Durkan have appointed John McAslan, architect of the highly-regarded make over of Peter Jones in Sloane Square to oversee the development to capitalise on its unique historic character.
