Every now and again in home improvements something completely new comes along to invigorate the industry and inspire budding home interiors and design enthusiasts.
Patio sliding doors fell out of favour some years ago due to the ‘eighties feel’ of the doors and the fact that only half of the doorway at most could open for access. This led to a resurgence in the popularity of ‘French’ or ‘Double’ Doors as they are sometimes labelled. These doors can be made in PVC, Wood or Aluminium and comprise of master and slave sections that both open outwards or into the room.
What if you have a large opening to fill and do not like patio sliding doors?
The modern solution that provides the maximum in light, opening and most important of all ‘pose-ability’ is the bi-folding door.
Bi-folds are available in timber and aluminium with only the lower market versions purchased in plastic due to the flexibility concerns of PVC and potential operational problems resulting. They also look too wide in frame section and usually have a large reveal that needs to stepped over to exit the door. This results in a less than stylish access to the garden.
Whether in timber or aluminium , the best bi-folds have almost no threshold and open the full width of the room whether that be five, six or ten metres in width.
Bi-fold doors
Admiral Homespace, an award winning company based in Cambridgeshire, have seen a 200% increase in enquiries for their bi-folding doors over the past twelve months. They offer timber doors but the most popular solution is undoubtedly aluminium. Their Easyfold Door Range can be supplied as standard in White, Black, Brown or Grey Aluminium with optional colour matching of any RAL number. Even foiled wood grain finishes can be supplied meaning that the doors can harmonise with practically any age or style of property.
The Easyfold door from Admiral can be fitted to conservatories, extensions or as a window replacement. An extremely popular option at the moment is for bi-folding doors at the front of an Orangery styled garden room. Admiral Homespace have so many enquiries for this contemporary Orangery design that they are currently building a display building at their show centre near Cambridge with timber windows an aluminium glazed lantern and Easyfold doors to the front.
Standard specification for the Admiral Bi-Fold door includes high security locking, tandem roller assemblies and double glazed low emissivity sealed units for maximum insulation.
The door is usually supplied fully fitted with a 10 year guarantee but supply only is available.
